On August 26, a massive torrent of water, rock, ice, mud and debris tore through northern Nepal. Homes and buildings were swept away. Roads and bridges collapsed. Power stations and other critical infrastructure were badly damaged, leaving some of the hardest-hit communities difficult to reach.

More than 600 people have been killed and thousands remain missing as search and rescue operations continue. Humanitarian agencies estimate that around 93,000 people may have been affected.
